The current importance of Safari is simple to understand. Apple has underwritten the development of Webkit, the most web standards compliant html rendering engine around. Take a close look at the Webkit logo and the Safari logo...

Webkit is so good that even Dreamweaver CS4 has it as the heart of its Live View mode.

Apple despite its closed source outershell is still doing good things for the web community. Even the lack of Flash on the iPhone OS is helping push the web towards HTML 5's video tag and not towards Adobe's closed source clutches.

At this point, if you are doing browser tests with the hope of knowing if your CSS and HTML are coded to standards then Safari and Chrome are it.

I genuinely hope Internet Explorer, as a whole, learns to be more standards-compliant and less of a whiney todler about how it renders things. Of course, this is due to MS's corporate scheming, but the numbers speak for themselves.

Frankly, I think Google may win, just because of the sheer magnitude of the company already: search engine, new phone with new mobile OS, new browser, and even talks of it's own computer operating system. Crazy. Google is proving to be the all-around good guy, head of the popularity table.

I'm still rooting for Firefox. And I never really had an opinion of Safari -it was "there" but I never used it (I'm on a mac) nor ever felt the need to use it. Commendable on Apple to launch its own browser, sure, but necessary? Seriously not.

Someone with a disgusting amount of pocket change should go out and buy up every browser out there. Then launch ONE BROWSER TO RULE THEM ALL and give users a 2 year non-negotiable clause to make the upgrade.
Only then will our lives as designers be comfortable.

AGREE! Great post Jere :) As crazy, hectic, dramatic and amazing this semester has been, I don't think I've ever learned so much in my life about design, priorities, and most importantly, myself. The knowledge I gained this semester, will stay with me forever.

There are many hosts you can use for having a site. www.bluehost.com, www.hostpapa.com and www.godaddy.com will help you make a website.

Once you do this, you can hire a specialist, or use online technologies from websites like www.w3schools.com and learn the basics of web design yourself.
